You Have A Fifth Grader!

Being a 5th grader is momentous for Laurel students. It's a status that they've worked hard to achieve that comes with events that they've looked forward to since Kindergarten. The Fifth Grade Committee is a group of 5th grade parent volunteers who work together with the school staff to ensure that every child has an extra special 5th grade experience during their last year at Laurel.

The Fifth Grade Committee is made of several different groups. The pool party, promotion event, pancake breakfast, T-shirt creators, fundraising & yearbook. This is not a one man job & takes the Laurel 5th grade parent village to pull it off!

In June, there’s organizing the pool party that involves reserving the pool, planning food, games and fun at the event.

The Fifth Grade Committee also organizes a pancake breakfast during the last week of school. Students get the opportunity to sign yearbooks and say one last goodbye to Laurel Elementary. 

The Fifth Grade Committee assists with the Promotion Ceremony, which takes place at the end of the year. Parent volunteers are responsible for planning the event with the Principal, creating invitations and decorations, coordinating refreshments and overseeing the logistics of the ceremony with the Principal.

Every 5th grader receives a yearbook that reflects their years at Laurel.  It involves collaboration between parents, teachers and volunteers.  Some of the responsibilities include collecting, organizing and selecting photos submitted by parents, obtaining and organizing information for each student page, designing and creating layouts for the book, as well as working with the 5th grade teachers to publish content submitted by the students. The finished product is a professionally published yearbook for students and families to cherish for years to come.  

Last but not least, Fundraising! These events cannot happen without a solid fundraising team. This group sells food at school events, See’s Candy over the holidays & has many other opportunities to raise money for the kids. 

The Fifth Grade creates custom T-shirts for the students. The T-shirts will be worn by 5th graders on the days & weeks leading up to the end of the year, as well as on Field Day - another Laurel tradition that the children look forward to and enjoy tremendously.
